self introduction (what to say?)
My name’s Frederick Douglas Callahan, but you can call me FD. My extension’s 1125 if you need to contact me. I’m here under the joint program from the University of Endomfty, and my primary advisor’s Professor Adrian Minsky. I did linguistics and cognitive science in university. I graduated this year. So now I’m a first year PhD student. I’m hoping to get more into computational linguistics here, but whatever happens happens, I suppose. (I need to sound more sure of what I’m doing!) I’m really interested in language learning and primitive language learning. My research was in text prediction back in university, like how people preprocess words before actually getting to them, and I mostly worked with verbs and causatives. (I don’t think I can use the term “like” in a professional setting like this...) So I think it’d be interesting to see how that process developed and whether other species that have pseudo languages also do this.
(oh dear, is this too formal?)

Three fun facts about me:
-
Outside of school and work stuff I like reading (really, dude?)... I’m really into science fiction. Particularly space exploration stories, or aliens.
-
I have a cat! His name is Jiji.
-
I’m colorblind. Well, partially.
I also have really bad social anxiety and struggle with talking, or making sounds at all. I don’t know why, I don’t know if I dislike my own voice or what, I am just really bothered by it? And nothing I say really… come out right. So I write. I really want my paper by the end of this to be significant to humankind but I’ve also always been noted as an academic genius but it’s not really who I am, it’s just a small part of it, but everyone defines me by that, so now that doesn’t really feel significant anymore, I don’t even think I’m smart, because that’s the norm for me, but if I say that everyone thinks that I’m arrogant, but I actually despise this. So really, I want to be significant for being me as a person, but nobody’s really significant to everyone, or even anyone at all, so forget all of this.

Nice to meet you all! I hope we work well together.
